Need despretly to get the old mini on the road, as it will be my drive around... Having speedo problems, Just had a new cable fitted and the chap that fitted the speedo has told me it has seized up The main problem is that its a mk2 mini cooper, and the speedo's are a rare find because it shows 100mph on the speedo. I don't want a 90mph or 130 mph as I want to keep it oringinal. So really just asking if anyone has a mk2 mini cooper speedo, or has a method of fixing the oringinal one. please need help as really want to drive the new mini around.....

The 100mph speedos are indeed rare and expensive. Best bet would probably be to put a 90mph in as a stop-gap measure and get your 100 repaired.

Hi - I went through all this with my Cooper. Got taken to the cleaners by a firm that cocked up repairing the speedo. Got another seized one on Ebay, and found out how to unseize it. Am busy this weekend, and am having terrible trouble with my BT/Yahoo connection at the moment. If you can wait until next week, I can help you at no cost!! Don't forget, I may not be able to see any more posts until I am next able to get online. Alex I believe has my phone number, if you don't hear from me.

Thats great, will ask Alex for your phone number, so we can have a chat about the speedo. The car isn't on the road until this Thursday coming, so it would be perfect this coming weekend.
thanks

Forgot to say yesterday - when you have got it to move, use a drill to run it for some time with continuous plus gas. Only when it is spinning freely, refit it to the car (after moving the needle to the correct place of course).

It wouldn't free I tried for days on end, so I then took it to a freind of mine who is a full time mechanic, we sat down for many hours taking it apart, we then phoned a company that deals with speedo's and we talked it through together, in the end it was sent there and is being repaired at the moment, they have delt with this proberly before so fingers cross it works. Thankyou ever so much for your help, I'm sure I will meet you again through the club. Many Thanks Dario
