In April we wrote to the Taunton & District Carnival committee to ask if we can join in the daytime carnival activities, i.e. the historic vehicle parade from the Cricket Ground and display in the town centre. The Secretary wrote back to say yes that was fine, and by the way they were considering asking us to provide a Mini as transport for the Carnival Princess at the front of the afternoon Children's Carnival.
Just to let everyone know that we have followed this up this week with a further letter, offering a Mini for the Princess, and to ask for details closer to the date for both the cruise, Kid's Carnival and static display in the Hammet Street/Parade area.
If the organisers confirm whether a Mini is required, we should hopefully have options of providing an opentop if the weather is fine (Cabriolet, Moke or Buggy) or a hardtop (saloon/estate/van etc) if its wet or cold.

so we are litterally looking at singular mini rather than a group or club?

A Mini with the Carnival Princess in and the rest of us in an orderly gaggle is how I understood it.
To be confirmed...

Great news! Taunton Carnival Committee not only wants us to have a display on Carnival Day on the Parade, but also escort the Carnival Queen and Princess in the Children’s Carnival in the afternoon!
We have been allocated space on the pedestrian area of the Parade, between the Market House and Tudor Tavern coffee shop. There are food traders either side of us on the corners. Its about 16m long so we should be able to get 6-8 Minis squeezed in. We arrive at the Cricket Ground at 9.30am to convoy through the town with the Harley motorcycles. The Harleys park on the Parade opposite the Memorial, and the Vintage Vehicles are down Hammet Street. There are various activities centred around the pedestrian High Street throughout the day including clowns, buskers plus the Children’s Carnival at 2pm. We have been asked to provide a single Mini to provide transport either for the Mayor or Carnival Princess for this parade (there will also be 1 Harley and 1 Vintage Car). Maybe the Moke or a Cabriolet with softops so doesn’t matter if wet or dry weather? Reading the itinerary, there is a presentation to the best car exhibit at Market House; presumably our cars may be considered.
At 3.15pm we are free to go.
Volunteers with shiny Minis please, and expect a lot of attention!

Sounds great! At least we have confirmed details now. In case of problems, the B.O.C is availible for soft top cruising. Otherwise Sir Drivesalot will strut his usual stuff. ;D

Taunton Carnival committee has sent us final details. We need to sort out volunteers! About 8 smart Minis for static display at the Market House between 9.30am to 3pm. 1 really smart, or a soft top type (Moke/Cabrio?) for the Carnival Princess Parade. From previous experience of driving a Mini in the main Taunton carnival, it'll need to have a decent clutch because you drive really slow and you're constantly slipping it to go at slow walking pace. This is going to be really good fun, and we'll get lots of local attention ;D

Deffinately get this into topic of discussion on Monday...I htink we should really look at the capabilities of man and machine so: - Get a list of all members. - Take away members who cannot physically make it for the day - Heavily consider cars with good clutches from cars that well_dont - Reminder of cars into a hat...and pick. I guess that way it gives a fairer push for everyone.

I agree with Oli. That's the normal way we do it! There's lots of lovely Minis in the club - I like 'em all !

OK with the last 24 hours to go, whats the final plan? If someone can give me an Idea to which cars are coming, I'll either bring the B.O.C for the carnival procession or Sir Dents-alot so sit in display...(shame cant bring both tho ) Lets hope for good weather as well! ;D

Sorry Andy, but no-one seemed interested so we didn't make enquiries for this year.
