I know a few of you are not wanting to camp at Crystal Palace due to the lack of sleep you get! Andy and I have booked a campsite just outside Brighton for the saturday night. Our plan is to drive up to Brighton Saturday afternoon, and have a chilled out afternoon and evening, peaceful nights sleep, and then be ready to get to Madeira Drive in Brighton early Sunday. It is a long old drive to go up there and back in one day, and the campsite has showers etc and is only £11 for the two of us. Is anyone else interested?

Don't you mean BLB?!? Sounds like a lot of driving though...you do realise you can pick up your run packs from Brighton do you?

Don't forget that all the run packs are kept at Crystal Palace for collection by the Runners. Yes, they do eventually get down to Brighton, but not until very very late in the day.
Besides, missing out on the actual run with all the other cars makes the L2B into just another show...

Thought you always said the London to Brighton run was more like being in a car park than a convoy? If you want a good run, there is no comparison to the North Devon later in the year -only one I have ever done with relatively no queueing!! Upto you all -but if you want the camp site near Brighton you will need to book it so let me know and I will forward you contact info

Apart from coming down Madiera Drive itself, I haven't queued for years on L-B; mainly because rather than parking inside Crystal Palace and waiting until late morning to finally leave, I park just outside, wander in and collect pack and stroll round the waiting cars, and then get going about the same time as the head of the main convoy leaves. Really relaxing way to do it, stopping at a McD's for breakfast en-route with several other Mini owners who obviously have the same idea! I've been doing the Run since 1991, and I've found this is definately the nicest way for me to do it.
The worse year, the last I camped actually in the grounds, I didn't get out of Crystal Palace until nearly 12, and arrived at Brighton past 3 when everyone was packing up.
There's lots of ways to plan the day; it really depends what you want to get out of it.
BTW, if you want to collect packs from the LSMOC stand at Brighton, they normally arrive after lunch, and they re-open registration later and try and locate your run-pack. But if you do not have the plaque with you, you may not be allowed to drive and park your Mini on Madiera Drive along with the others; the red postcard on its own is sometimes not accepted (but you can always try). Parking on the highway is a knightmare; all the legal on-road parking spots are bagged early and the traffic wardens are known to prowl!

OK it seems the plans are chanigng again...looks like vicks andym and me are camping near henfield instead of the previously planned site (due to a mass of festival goers).
Emma and Andy are considering a move as well. Mr Ben and Paul I havent been able to get hold of as yet.

Will the campers be coming to the Palace or relying on the run packs arriving at Brighton ?
In previous years it has been nigh on impossible to get onto Madeira Drive without a Run Plaque attached to the front of the car or the second part of the ticket. The rules are different for traders and (possibly) club stands.

Not at all Oli - I am merely voicing concern that you guys are spending £23 to get into a show, missing out on the run element of it, and *may* not be able to get into the main carparking area (based on previous experience).
As long as you go and have fun, I care not how you do it, I'd just hate for your day to be crap !
