Orange peel is often a result of not enough thinners or holding the spray gun too far away from the car -i.e. paint too thick or it gets a chance to dry a bit and blobs onto the car and does not flow out.

My recommendation is to get a professional paint spraying setup, spray about 20 other cars first to perfect your method, then do your car. Or find a pro who knows what they're doing and guarantees their results. That would be my pick.

Can you still buy lacquer in the UK? It is difficult to find here. Lacquer is supposed to have some orange peel and dullness to it which you would color sand out after it has cured and then buff to a shine. A much better finish can be had from using two pack paint products but practice is needed for a good end result. These also can be color sanded and buffed for a great shine. Eric

Seriously, do you have a good painter? I have a shell that needs what should be a pretty straightforward job.
Cheers,
Jim

There's a guy who's done some cars for club members, but I'd have to check on his name & number. There must be someone closer to you though. When I get ready to paint my trailer shell, I hope to use the paint booth at a high school here in town that has a nighttime body shop class.
