Not only is the Mini going to 50 years young in 2009, but Minis Unlimited will also 'come of age'. The club is going to be 18 years old and we need to celebrate! A proposal put forward at the recent Blackbrook meeting was to have a fun camping weekend away. Beer and barbeques, we do that well . Because the official birthday is 1st June 2009, we're aiming to plan something for the weekend before (Spring Bank Holiday) or the weekend after (6th/7th June). We need some ideas for destination. Maybe do a poll? Jeanette suggested Woolacombe on the N.Devon coastline; not too far, nice drive across Exmoor, good facilities there. Any more? ;D

I do recall someone mentioned the Isle Of Wight in the summer.
Suzy I'm going to Woolacoombe, Thursday for a few days, i will look to see if they have an amusement arcade for the BIG kids!
But for the more outgoing adventurers, there's body boarding, surfing, skim boarding, or perfect for para gliding.
If you are not a beach person then theres a rugged coastal walk around Mortehoe Point. Finished with a well deserved cream tea or a cold beer. Lovely! ;D

Had a great weekend at woolacoombe, Saturday went for a 7hr coastal hike and Sunday spent it on the beach body boarding.
Anyway, I had a look to see what amusements they have for the BIG BOYS. There's an amusement arcade to spend your Penny's. They also have pitch and putt, crazy golf, bumper boats, mini racing cars. There's some nice pubs with the popular Red Barn, and a night club above the amusement arcade. Hope this helps. Take care all - Jeanette

We have had a fantastic offer! And to give credit to Jeannette and Hayman, it was due to their interest in this event... ;D Saturday 6th June - Sunday 7th JuneCastle Combe have invited us to book a club stand at their Classic Retro & Sportscar Action Day, followed by camping overnight (bar/restaurant will be open during the evening), and Classic Drive-In Day on Sunday! SOUNDS FABULOUS Mini clubs are not allowed to camp at the circuit due to prvious incidents of 'the few spoiling it for the many'. However because of our many years of honest and enthusiastic bookings with them, they welcome making an exception with us. There will be other classic car enthusiasts staying at the circuit overnight so should be pretty interesting. Details are yet to be posted, but action day admission and track pass offers should be available. Not sure about if charges apply for camping or the Sunday event. So on our doorstep and really good fun.

We are very sorry but due to general lack of interest this plan has not gone ahead.
However we do have the booking forms for the Mini Action Day in September, and suggest we book club stand and track passes early for this.

Late notice ? I don't think so...
This event has been known about all year - the thread was started in October, and the Coombe event was publicised in January. Without firm commitments to attend in advance, it is sheer stupidity to book a clubstand or reserve space at an event on the off-chance people may want to go. Organisers have long memories regarding non-attendance or late withdrawls...

Well to be fair its only 2 weeks away, wait not even that!
And I know it was opened in October, and I know that people have viewed this. But some form of reminder wouldn't have gone a miss I don't think. Or even a regular email telling people to either commit it it or say no was shant be coming and then you'll know exactly what the plan is.
I'm not telling you how to run the Club but I'm sure you are welcoming constructive criticism and therefore won't take anything I say to heart.

Jack, you've been to the recent meetings, you've seen this topic, you've had the diary dates handout (which is also a PDF download from this website).
Exactly how many 'reminders' do you want?
And BTW, after 18 years of this club its PRETTY F***KING DISAPPOINTING that only 2 people showed any initial interest in a birthday party idea. And now only a few days before the originally publicised event date you are jumping up and down whinging about it.
Well I'm sorry but your niggling has hit a sore nerve. So either shut up or try organising and advertising something for the group yourself. Because I'm pretty upset about this.

Well umm I never said I needed a reminder. Not everyone logs onto here, and other need a little more nudging.
I'm sorry if I hit a "sore nerve" but I was making a very valid point. I'm not whining I don't care what happens, I'll just go with the flow or not at all. I'm purely trying to help like most people around here are, especially Net!
But if running a club is going to work things should be re enforced more regularly to avoid people saying "Oh right thats not long away is it, sorry can't come".
Anyways sorry again.

But some form of reminder wouldn't have gone a miss I don't think. Well yes that's exactly what you said. I don't think you've actually come to a show with the club yet have you? If you want to help rally club members, assistance is always much appreciated. But you need to understand the system first before you go shouting your mouth off, it puts some folks off.
