Hey my name is Craig, guess you can get that from the name. I have had a Nissan Micra since I passed last year and have decided to buy a Mini. I am picking up the one I have purchased tomorrow. I got a Austin Mini Mayfair 1989 in red. Looks pretty mint condition to me. Checked the sills etc and seems to be a decent runner. My dad has a keen hand for cars and has told me its a cracking little car. However I am looking for something advice. I was wondering if there are any Mini meeting points in Taunton, Somerset were I could try to learn more about the Mini's and try to meet some new people with them. If anyone could give me advice on running a Mini.. what to look for and general stuff it would be much appreciated. Thank you so much. Craig Attachments:

Welcome to the Mini fold !! Nice looking car with some interesting shiny bits on it - the previous owner must have showered it with presents.
While MU doesn't have a regular meeting time & place (technically we are no longer a public club, more a collection of friends who get together and do stuff under a communal banner) you will always be able to get help on the forum, and 'members' are usually more than happy to render mechanical advice and help. Next time we have a get-together, we'll give you a shout - I'm sure our youngsters will welcome a new face.

Thank you very much for your reply Alex.
Yeah it looks nice in tidy condition (accept the rims which aren't the nicest to look at)
It also drives BRILLIANTLY, have just come back A303 from Reading and was so nice across in the sunshine. However one problem, when I was slowing down to roundabouts etc (going too 1st gear) the engine would cut out unless the choke was out. Wondering what the problem could be?
Much appreciated Craig

Sounds very much like it is running too lean - could be a vacuum leak, sticky dashpot or just wrong mixture.
We're playing cars, subframes & doors tomorrow afternoon - pop over if you want and we'll give the ignition system & carb a good dose of looking at for you.

Hi there, I'm a new member and bought a '92 british racing green mini 1.3i earlier in the year after a LONG wait since I was 19 having scrapped my first one Am having some trouble with starting , have replaced the alternator and a repair has been done on the replay (black box top left of the engine bay) but car will still not start! she has an electronic starting system (no points) and the battery is fully charged and power clearly going to the dash/lights etc... When try to turn the car over there is just no response?? Would love to hear if anyone has had similar issues or may know of a solution? Hope to hear from you......... Hippodaz
